Notes: Extruded aluminum alloys, which are highly versatile, have relatively modest prototypingcost, good strength and corrosion resistance. Because there is no weld seam, the circumferentialmechanical properties may be uniform and advantageous for hydroforming. However, surface defectssuch as die lines and pick-up can be generated during the extrusion especially due to imperfections onthe die surface. In this study, the extent of the crack propagation caused by die lines is evaluatedaccording to the deformed shape of the tube in hydroforming process. And when forming a extrudedaluminum tube, the deformed surface of the tube frequently becomes rougher with increasing plasticstrain. This is well known as orange peel phenomenon and it has a significantly effect not only on thesurface quality of a final product but also on the forming limit. To evaluate the effects of the orangepeel on the hydroformability, the inter-stage polishing has been performed. Through the several testsincluding hydroforming test, the effect of surface defects on the hydroformabilities are well defined

Notes: The outer race of the constant velocity(CV) joint is an important load-supportingautomotive part, which transmits torque between the transmission and the wheel. The outer race isdifficult to be forged, because its shape is very complex and the required dimensional tolerances arevery stringent. Therefore, the internet based shape inspection system is developed in this study toprovide quick and accurate measuring data. Proposed system uses mechanical displacement sensorsto measure the shape of CV joint that has six inner ball grooves, and commercially available Lab-View program is used to process measured data into the dimensional shape. Developed programprovides a simple user interface that enables users to have real-time access of data measured fromindustrial production lines. Furthermore, the measured data can be exchanged via the internetbetween users and forging system operators. A java applet helped the system connection viainternet. A data, IP access, is transmitted to the packet by TCP/IP. Our proposed system has manyadvantages over current measuring systems including fast and efficient data processing by real-timemeasuring, and system flexibility

Notes: The membrane, which forms the primary barrier of the cargo tank onboard LNG carrier,is made of corrugated sheets, angle pieces and sealing caps and so on. These components aremanufactured from SUS 304L sheets of 1.2mm thickness and assembled by the plasma welding. There are several welding defects such as overlap, excessive convexity, excessive concavity of weldand incomplete inclusion in the plasma welding. These unacceptable portions of the weld should beremoved and repaired in order to prevent propagation of the defects. So a study is undertaken todetermine the optimum process parameters such as the welding current, traveling speed, gas flowrates and frequency in the plasma lap welding process for LNG ships in order to prevent thesedefects. The polished and etched surface of the welded membrane sheet is examined if the crosssection shows a properly made weld. And the tensile tests are conducted to consider if the tensilestrength is less than the minimum required for the parent metal of the membrane sheet

Notes: In this study, research work on the effects of vibrational energy on the microstructure ofwelds and Charpy toughness is performed. The results show that vibration during welding exhibitspositive effects on the microstructure constituent formation by reducing the amount and thicknessof grain boundary ferrite and suppressing the formation of the Widmanstatten structure. And alsodue to the finer microstructure developed by the vibration, toughness value of the weld metalincreases

Notes: Uniaxial compression tests on hot-rolled AZ31 Mg alloy were carried out at 200°C. Inorder to investigate the evolution of texture during plastic deformation, cylindrical specimens werecompressed to the rolling and normal directions. Experimental investigation reveals that workhardening and texture evolution are strongly dependent on the loading direction. The occurrence ofdeformation twinning was revealed by the observation of microtexture using electron backscatterdiffraction (EBSD). A visco-plastic self-consistent (VPSC) polycrystal model was used to simulatethe texture evolution during the uniaxial compression. The texture evolution induced bycrystallographic slip and deformation twinning can be explained by the relative activity of eachdeformation modes

Notes: A modified two dimensional (2-D) Monte Carlo (MC) technique was used to simulateprimary recrystallization in automotive steels containing fine particles. In order to consideranisotropic properties of grain boundary energy and grain boundary mobility, functions of boundarymisorientation were introduced. Orientation-dependent stored energy developed in 80% cold-rolledinterstitial free (IF) sheet steel was evaluated by reconstructing of data measured using electronback-scattered diffraction (EBSD) analysis. A subgrain method based on subgrain structure is usedfor quantitative analysis of the stored energy. The simulation reveals that particles affect evolution ofmicrostructure during recrystallization. The simulation provided a theoretical foundation forunderstanding effect of particles on the final microstructures and crystallographic textures
