Notes: Abstract The (d,3He)-reactions on the target nuclei48,50Ti and51V have been studied with 52 MeV deuterons. The data were analyzed by means of the DWBA which is shown to be applicable at this energy. All our results agree well with the assumption of pure (f 7/2)n proton configurations for these nuclei. The inelastic scattering of 52 MeV deuterons from the lowest 2+ state in48Ti has been described in terms of the collective model as well as of the microscopic shell model. Good fits to the measured angular distributions have been obtained with reasonable values for the deformation parameters and the basic nucleon-nucleon interaction.

Notes: Abstract  The problem of modelling turbulence in CFD is due to the wide range of length scales present in a turbulent flow. The physics of these scales is examined, and the need for models of the small scale motions is made clear. A review is given of methods of turbulence modelling. These methods can be divided into two classes: Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) models, and large eddy simulation (LES). The Reproducing Kernel Particle method (RKPM) is then presented and proposed as a class of filters for LES of inhomogeneous turbulent flows. Important properties of the method are discussed, including the effectiveness of the RKPM reproduction as a low-pass filter. The commutation of the filtering operation with differentiation is demonstrated, showing that the commutation error can be made arbitrarily small. A one-dimensional non-linear example problem is solved using a Galerkin method in which a bi-scale constitutive model is used for the subgrid scale terms. The extension of the method to the three-dimensional equations of fluid dynamics is then outlined, where the method is used as a filter in a dynamic subgrid stress model. Emphasis is placed on the multi-scale properties of RKPM, which allow the reproduction of different scales of the solution using the same set of nodal parameters.

Notes: Abstract The reactions22Ne(d, t)21Ne and22Ne(d, τ)21F have been investigated in a parallel experiment atE d=52MeV. Energy spectra of tritons andτ particles have been measured up to excitation energies of 18MeV in both21Ne and21F nuclei. Thel values could be determined, and spectroscopic factors have been obtained by a DWBA analysis of the measured angular distributions. Together with the results from a preceding $${}^{22}Ne(\vec d, \tau ){}^{21}F$$ experiment, several spins could be determined in21F. From a comparison of the triton andτ particle spectra,T=3/2 states in21Ne could be identified and on this basis the new information on spins of21F states could be transferred to their analog states in21Ne. The completeT 〈 andT 〉 parts of the (2s, 1d) strengths could be observed. The 1p strength is highly fragmented. Of theT 〈 part only 60% of the 1p1/2 and 40% of the lp3/2 strength could be found, but the totalT 〉 part of the 1p strength could be localized. The spectroscopic results for positive parity states are in qualitatively good agreement with shell model predictions.

Notes: Abstract The46Ti(d, τ)45Sc reaction has been investigated at an incident energy of 52 MeV. Angular distributions have been taken for 14 τ-groups corresponding to excitation energies below 4 MeV in45Sc. Spectroscopic factors were extracted through DWBA calculations. Spins and parities of 5/2+ are proposed for states at 1.30, 1.80, 2.91, 3.48, and 3.72 MeV. The hole state spectrum of45Sc closely resembles that of47Sc. A strong fractionation of the 1d 3/2 strength was not observed in contrast to other recent work. The data provide evidence for (1f 7/2 · 1f 5/2 1) components in the ground state wave function of46Ti, which demonstrates that such configurations are not restricted to neutron excitations.

Notes: Abstract We consider the well-known cases of strong isospin mixing in8Be,12C, and16O. We show that, contrary to some previous claims which invoke the need for a charge symmetry breaking nuclear interaction, (i) the isospin mixing matrix elements can be explained by the Coulomb interaction alone and (ii) contributions from charge symmetry breaking nuclear interactions are small.

Notes: Abstract Ten states of17N have been excited via the18O(d,3He)17N reaction atE itd=52 MeV. Thel-transfer values are presented for eight of these states. Based on the subsequent spin and parity assignments severalT=3/2 isobaric multiplets are proposed.

Notes: Abstract The (d,3He) reaction has been used to excite proton hole states in8Li,9Be and10Be. Angular distributions have been measured and have been analyzed in terms of the DWBA to get spectroscopic factors for the considered transitions. Excitation energies and transition strengths are compared with the results of Cohen and Kurath's intermediate coupling shell model calculations, where the two models of the effective interaction produce different results especially for transitions to final states in mass 8 and 10 nuclei. The experimental results are clearly in favour of the (6–16) 2 BME interaction. A positive parity state in10Be predicted by the calculations has been looked for and found at 9.60 MeV.

Notes: Abstract The utility of the (18O20Ne) reaction at small angles for the mass determination of highly neutron rich nuclei is demonstrated by a determination of the mass excess of62Fe as (−58.946±0.022) MeV and of68Ni as (−63.466±0.028) MeV. An excited state of62Fe is observed at 0.875 MeV.
