Notes: Abstract Present concentrations and distributions of heavy metals through profiles, surface soil, and stream sediment samples in the Hunchun area, north-eastern China, were investigated to determine the elemental background values. This study also aims to characterize potentially toxic materials such as pulverized fly ash (PFA) from power stations or ash and slag from coal used domestically in urban areas, agrochemicals applied inappropriately, and urban sewage sludges from Hunchun City, as well as to ascertain the possibility of natural enrichment through site characterization by mineralogical and geochemical investigation. The distribution of contaminants in the alluvial soils (fluvisol) of this area has been influenced by several interacting factors. The parent alluvial materials from weathered products of amphiboles have made coatings such as ferrihydrite, goethite, and hematite. This natural inheritance factor is supported by the fact that the concentrations of weak acid-extractable (plant-available) heavy metals are very low, except for Fe and Mn. However, in agricultural soils and adjacent stream sediments, an anthropogenic input of Cd, Pb, Ni and Cr by agrochemicals is strongly suggested. Also, F contamination by coal combustion and the dissolution of F-bearing minerals could cause some future problems. Wide distribution and significantly high concentrations of Cd, Fe, Mn, and F in soils throughout the combination of pollutants originating from lithogenic and the anthropogenic sources pose potential problems in utilizing water resources.

Notes: Abstract The contribution of T-, L-, N-, P-, and Q-type Ca2+ channels to pre-and postsynaptic Ca2+ entry during stimulus-induced high neuronal activity in area CA1 of rat hippocampal slices was investigated by measuring the effect of specific blockers on stimulus-induced decreases in extracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]0). [Ca2+]0 was measured with ion-selective electrodes in stratum radiatum (SR) and stratum pyramidale (SP), while Ca2+ entry into neurons was induced with stimulus trains (20 Hz for 10 s) alternately delivered to SR and the alveus, respectively. The [Ca2+]0 decreases recorded in SR in response to SR stimulation represented mainly presynaptic Ca2+ entry (Capre), while [Ca2+]0 decreases recorded in SP in response to alvear stimulation were predominantly based on postsynaptic Ca2+ entry (Capost). Ethosuximide and trimethadione were ineffective m concentrations up to 1 mM. At 10 mM, they reduced Capost and, much less, also Capre Nimodipine (25 μM) reduced Capost and, to a minor extent, Capre. ω-Agatoxin IVA (0.4–1 μM) and ω-conotoxin MVIIC (1 μM) also reduced both Capre and Capost, but with a stronger action on Capre. ω-Conotoxin GVIA (3–8 μM) reduced Capost without effect on Capre. We conclude that during stimulus-induced, high-frequency neuronal activity Capost is carried by P/Q-, N-, and L-type channels and probably a further channel type different from these channels. Capre includes at least P/Q-and possibly L-type channels. N-type channels did not contribute to Capre in our experiments. Since ethosuximide and trimethadione were only effective in high concentrations, their action may be unspecific. Thus, T-type channels do not seem to play a major part in Ca2+ entry in this situation.

Notes: In precision turning, the quality of surface finish is an important requirement formachined workpiece. Thus, the choice of optimal cutting parameters is very important forcontrolling the required surface quality. The focus of the present study is to find a correlationbetween surface roughness and cutting parameters (feed rate, depth of cut) and nose radius inturning 3J33 maraging steel, and to derive mathematical models for the predicted surface roughnessbased on both of cutting parameters and nose radius. The experimental design is carried out usingthe quadratic rotary combination design. The regression analysis shows feed rate and nose radiusinfluence surface roughness significantly. With F-ratio test the proposed model is adequate. Themethod could be useful in predicting roughness parameters as a function of cutting parameters andnose radius

Notes: In this paper, the effect of Cr2O3 addition on the electrical properties and microstructures ofWO3-MnO2 ceramics was studied. The samples were fabricated by the conventional solid phase reactiontechniques. The current-voltage curves and impedance spectra of sintered samples were measured at roomtemperature. The samples without Cr2O3 doping exhibit the max nonlinear coefficient α above 8 in currentregion from 1mA to 10mA and an unstable characteristic of current-voltage curve for repeat measuringcycle, while the samples doped with Cr2O3 display lower nonlinearity with α about 5 and an improvedstability of current-voltage curve at the same conditions. The impedance measurements indicate that theinfluence on electrical properties comes from grain boundary as well as grain. SEM shows the doping ofCr2O3 into WO3-MnO2 ceramics suppresses obviously the growth of WO3, and XRD analysis reveals thecoexistence of WO3 phases with some manganese tungstates and chromium tungstates. The problemsrelated to electrical transporting mechanism were discussed simply

Notes: In the light of growing global competition, organizations around the world today areconstantly under pressure to produce high-quality products at an economical price. The integrationof design and manufacturing activities into one common engineering effort has been recognized as akey strategy for survival and growth. Design for manufacturability (DFM) is an approach to designthat fosters the simultaneous involvement of product design and process design. Theimplementation of the DFM approach requires the collaboration of both the design andmanufacturing functions within an organization. At present, For some reasons DFM approach isineffectively including lack of interdisciplinary expertise of designers; inflexibility in organizationalstructure, which hinders interaction between design and manufacturing functions. Design formanufacture is the practice of designing products with manufacturing in mind. Early considerationof manufacturing issues can shorten product development cycle time, minimi overall developmentcost and ensure a smooth transition into production. In this paper, part manufacturability underConcurrent Engineering (CE) environment was analyzed in detail. An evaluation system of DFMwas proposed according to CE ideas. A fuzzy set-based manufacturability evaluation algorithm isformulated to generate relative manufacturability indices to provide product designers with a betterunderstanding of the relative ease or difficulty of machining the features in their designs. Ananalytic hierarchy process (AHP) method is introduced to assign weighting factors to features toreflect their functional importance. Results from the case studies show the method available andpracticable

Notes: The traditional series working mode can not make the outcome of product design processverified by activities of manufacturing domain in time, and the manufacturing process can not beexecuted concurrently. The purpose of this paper is to develop a method to solve the problemmentioned above. The connotation of the collaboration between design and manufacturing isstudied firstly, and then the design state maturity model (DSMM) is proposed in this paper. Sixlevels of maturity are defined in this model, and every level can support the collaboration betweendesign and manufacturing in different degree. Based on the design information required in themanufacturing process, the information included in each level is studied and particularized. Finally, the DSMM-based work process of collaboration between design and manufacturing is studied

Notes: In industrial practice, for the designers and researchers of the electro-hydraulic servosystem, it is desirable to boost the reliability of controllers, to shorten the design cycle of controlalgorithms, to simplify the modification of control algorithms during experiments and to shortentraining period for operators. In this paper, we present a new, complete and integrated method basedon the rapid control prototyping for the real-time digital control applied in electro-hydraulic servosystem. The approach uses a collection of tools that include both software (LabVIEW and Matlab)and hardware (a host industrial computer and a target developed digital signal processor controller). An application example of the methodology, synchronous loading test system based on artificialneural networks, completes the discussion about the performance of the designed system
