Gli autori hanno studiato la funzione tiroidea in ratti trattati con soluzione idroalcoolica di Melatonina ed hanno osservato che negli animali così trattati il peso della ghandola, l'altezza delle cellule follicolari, e la captazione del radioiodio si riduceva.

La Melatonina ha anche inibito la formazione della iperplasia tiroidea da tiouracile.
