Summary

The authors have succeeded in demonstrating the antibiotic activity of various species of lichens. 58 species of different genera have been investigated, 38 of which have been found to have a distinct antibacterial actionin vitro againstStaphylococcus aureus. Some of the characteristic acids of lichens have been found to be the active principles.
