Abstract

The effect of cobalt as a dopant for sodium-beta-alumina has been studied in polycrystalline materials prepared from a mixed oxide precursor. Two materials have been examined; one containing a small amount of cobalt as well as magnesium as a dopant and the other magnesium alone to produce the same molar quality of divalent dopant. The sintering behaviour, microstructure and phase composition are shown to be related to the measured ionic conductivity.
