Summary
The effect of localized hypothermia on gastric secretion was studied in dogs with gastrostomies and vagally innervated and denervated pouches.
The output of acid of gastric pouches in response to various stimuli was reduced following gastric freezing. When the entire stomach, in contrast to a pouch, was frozen, significant depression in secretion of acid was not observed.
