Abstract
A method valid at all temperatures belowT c is presented for the self-consistent solution of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. Computation is reduced to manageable proportions by using an Ansatz for the pair potential, and determining the parameters in the Ansatz by requiring self-consistency. For the simple geometry of a semiinfinite slab of superconductor in contact with an insulator (or vacuum), the Ansatz Δ=Δ∞ tanh αz is found to be good close to the transition temperature and correctly recovers the Ginzburg-Landau theory asT →T c.
