Abstract
The second moment of the strength distribution of single-hole states in finite nuclei is discussed. Theoretical estimates for the second moment of single-hole states near the top of the Fermi sea appear to be larger than experimental values that can be derived from data on knock-out reactions; this indicates that experimentally a part of the single-hole strength has not been observed.
