Summary
Hypoglycemia was observed during shock in 5 of 39 patients. Blood sugar levels ranged from 12 to 22 mg% and below 5 mg% in one case. Biochemical and histological findings suggest hepatic origin of the hypoglycemia. Based on these findings repeated blood sugar determinations and routine glucose infusions in shock are recommended. Hypoglycemia is an indication for intensive glucose therapy.
