A contribution to the toxicology of some alcohol mixtures containing 7 to 9 and 9 to 11 carbon atoms and the corresponding phthalate esters

Summary

The acute oral toxicity of mixed alcohols in the range 7 to 9 and 9 to 11 carbon atoms derived from a novel synthetic process has been shown to be of a low order. The corresponding dialkyl phthalates were also found to be relatively non-toxic. Neither the alcohols nor the phthalates are likely to represent a hazard to the skin of persons handling them. Care must be exercised to avoid splashing the alcohols into the eye although the phthalates are non-irritant.

Zusammenfassung

Die akute Toxizität gemischter Alkohole mit 7 bis 9 oder 9 bis 11 C-Atomen, die mit einem neuen Syntheseverfahren hergestellt waren, bewegt sich in einer niedrigen Größenordnung. Die entsprechenden Dialkyl-Phthalsäureester sind auch relativ wenig toxisch.

Es ist kaum zu erwarten, daß die Alkohole oder Phthalsäureester die Haut von Personen, die diesen Chemikalien ausgesetzt sind, schädigen. Spritzer dieser Alkohole in die Augen sollen vermieden werden, jedoch besitzen die Phthalsäureester keine Augenreizwirkung.
