Reflex activity of pretibial fusimotoneurones during stimulation of low threshold antagonistic muscle afferents

Summary

In the cat tetanic stimulation of low threshold afferents of the ipsilateral n. gastrocnemius activate reflexly gamma-motoneurones of pretibial muscles (m. ext. dig. long. and m. tib. ant.). Recording from efferents was done either by dividing the muscle nerve or by inserting microelectrodes within the nerve. Occasionally, reflex activation of muscle efferents was observed in fibres with conduction velocities above 55 m/sec.

Zusammenfassung

Die tetanische Reizung niedrigschwelliger Afferenzen des ipsilateralen N. gastrocnemius der Katze aktiviert reflektorisch Gamma-Motoneurone prätibialer Flexoren (M. ext. dig. long. und M. tib. ant.). Im ersten Teil der Untersuchung wurden die Efferenzen durch Aufteilung der Muskelnerven isoliert und über monopolare Elektroden abgeleitet; im zweiten Teil registrierten wir die reflektorische Aktivierung mit Mikroelektroden. Gelegentlich konnte eine reflektorische Aktivierung in Fasern beobachtet werden, die schneller als 55 m/sec leiteten.
