On the experiences of periosteoplasty for the closure of the maxillary cleft

  • Published:
Chirurgia plastica Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

Periosteoplasty has been followed up experimentally and clinically during the past nine years. In the experimental study, the transplanted periosteum was found to produce new bones; in the clinical study, 309 patients who had undergone periosteoplasty were examined and 67% of them gave positive results. The angular measurements on the lateral cephalometric roentgenograms were analyzed. These showed that periosteoplasty is an effective method for the closure of the maxillary cleft.
