The amount of magnification in indirect ophthalmoscopy is determined by the refraction power of the ophthalmoscopie lens and by the patients refraction. This correlation is mathematically formulated and presented in graphical notations. The limitating factors of magnification as related to the case of imaging the observers pupil into the patients pupil is discussed. In contrast to direct ophthalmoscopy the ametropy of the observer is without significance.

Die Vergrößerung beim Ophthalmoskopieren im umgekehrten Bild wird durch die Refraktion des untersuchten Auges und die Stärke der Ophthalmoskopierlinse bestimmt, während die Refraktion des Beobachters keine Rolle spielt. Der formelmäßige Zusammenhang zwischen diesen Größen wird angegeben und graphisch dargestellt. Die Grenzen der mit abnehmender Brechkraft der Ophthalmoskopierlinse wachsenden Vergrößerung werden diskutiert. Dabei kommt der Forderung der Pupillenabbildung eine besondere Rolle zu.
