Summary
The turnover of DNA was studied by means of thymidiny14C in different organs of mice inoculated with solid growing ELD tumor. At a tumor size of 13% of body weight, total body weight is unchanged indicating relative kachexiay The mesenteric fat decreased. The liver and spleen increased in weight, a change that was accompanied by increased DNA synthesis. The DNA-turnover of all other organs remained unchanged. In the kidneys and muscles smaller cell populations were stimulated by the tumor inoculation to a transitory increase of DNA-synthesis. An early decrease of label in the spleen and a concomitant increase in the liver, kidney and muscle may indicate cell migration.
