Abstract
Further studies were made of the influence of structure on the ring closure reactionsA andB of pyruvoyl peptides and dehydropeptides. Pyruvoyl peptides can undergo aldol condensation (3 a-c) as an alternative to cyclization. Pyruvoyl tetrapeptide amides and dehydroalanyl tetrapeptide amides were synthesized. Formation of larger rings by insertion of an amide-NH into pyruvoyl carbonyl or the double bond of the dehydro amino acid respectively could not be detected.
