Abstract
IT was reported recently1 that rigid spheres concentrate into a thin annular region when an initially uniform suspension undergoes laminar flow through a straight circular tube at particle Reynolds numbers between 10−3 and 6 × 10−2; while not completely explained, the phenomenon was attributed to the Magnus inertial effect.
