Heat-resistant Fe–Cr alloy with polycarbosilane as binder

Abstract

WITH the advances in recent years in high temperature gas-cooled reactors, jet engines and rockets, the constraints on heat-resistant materials are becoming more and more stringent; they must display high temperature strength, thermal shock resistance, high temperature corrosion resistance and toughness. Conventional heat-resistant materials can no longer meet these conditions1. We report here the development of a new heat-resistant Fe–Cr alloy which has the required properties, based on the method for the conversion of an organic silicon polymer to an inorganic compound by heating which we have described previously2–5.
