Summary

On the basis of NMR studies, mass spectrometry, chemical reactions and correlations with phorcabilin1, the structure2 is proposed for sarpedobilin, a butterfly blue bile pigment first isolated fromPapilio graphium sarpedon. This structure represents a new natural heterocyclic system.
