Summary

The flow of incompressible fluid in a hemispherical container induced by a distributed source of current and a superimposed uniform magnetic field, applied perpendicular to the axis of symmetry of the hemisphere, is investigated. A series solution is developed when the inertial terms in the Navier-Stokes equations are neglected and numerical results are stated for values of the parameters which are particularly relevant to the welding of steel.
