Production of magnesia refractories with predetermined properties analyzed by experiment design methods

Conclusions

The simplex grid type of experimental design makes it possible to observe the continuous variation of selected properties (open porosity, apparent density, linear firing shrinkage, etc.) of the periclase and periclase-spinel ceramics with the grain size distribution of the body. An addition of 4% PAK-3 accelerates the sintering of granular magnesia refractories. An example is given in which the area is determined for granular multifraction periclase-spinel compositions with predicted properties. The spalling resistance of specimens the grain size distribution of which lies in this area is also superior to that of periclase ceramics.

The results obtained here confirm the advantages of using the Scheffer method of experiment design for analyzing the composition and properties of mixtures for producing refractories with predicted properties.
