Abstract
Pronounced fluctuations are exhibited by the measured cross section excitation functions of94Zr(p, p) elastic and inelastic scattering at backward angles. Fluctuations in the analyzing power were found to be relatively small, in contrast to theoretical predictions and previous observations of strong analyzing power fluctuations in the presence of cross section fluctuations. The measured fluctuations are analyzed in the framework of the statistical model and the observed structures with a coherence width ofγ=(28±3) keV are attributed to overlappingT > states. No significant fluctuations are seen in96Zr(\(\vec p\), p0).
