Abstract
A search for an unknown spontaneously fissioning activity, possibly due to SHE, was carried out with the Dubna3He-counter system. In the investigation of Salton Sea samples and Atlantis II samplesno such activity could be detected with limits≦3×10−12 g/g.

The authors are deeply thankful to Academecian G.N. Flerov for providing an opportunity to carry out the measurements, for permanent assistance and valuable advice. One of us (D.M.) would like to thank Academecian Flerov for the kind hospitality during a stay at the JINR. We want to thank Drs R. Hoff and J. Grens (Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, Calif., USA) for supplying us with original Salton Sea Brine and Dr. D. Ross (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, Mass., USA) for supplying us with original Atlantis II samples.
