Summary
5 different antibody specificities can be differentiated in heterologous antilymphocytic antiserum of the rabbit:
-
1
anti-erythrocyte/leukocyte/thrombocyte/liver/kidney antibody.
-
2
anti-leukocyte/thrombocyte/liver/kidney antibody.
-
3
anti-leukocyte antibody.
-
4
anti-erythrocyte antibody.
-
5
anti-serumprotein antibody.
Anti-erythrocyte and anti-leukocyte antibodies were found in the 19 S and 7 S globulin fraction, whereas antibodies directed against an antigen common to erythrocytes and leukocytes could only be demonstrated in the 7 S fraction. The practical implications of this latter type of antibody were discussed. No blood group specificity was demonstrated. The crossreactivity of anti mousecell antibodies with blood cells of the rat did not include all the antibodies in the antiserum.
