Summary
Experiments on quantitative elemental analysis of glasses with muonic X-rays have been performed. The summed-up Lyman intensities were compared with the known abundances of the samples in order to deduce calibration numbers per element. In favourable cases a precision of the order of 1% of the respective abundance was obtained. The level of detection was about 100 ppm. The method is completely non-destructive and allows selection of certain parts (scanning), even well inside the sample. It may be combined with truly three-dimensional visualization.
