Summary
The pressure dependence of the viscosity of six monovalent alcohols as well as one bivalent, and its mixtures with water was measured within the pressure range up to 500 bar and at temperatures between 20°C and 100°C. The mixtures of the monovalent alcohols with water show a maximum of viscosity, and it should be determined whether the maxima are giving an effect on the pressure coefficient of the viscosity. As a result it was found that the pressure coefficients of viscosity as a function of the molar composition are not influenced by the maximum of the viscosity, but only the temperature dependence of these coefficients; at the viscosity maxima, they are nearly independent of the temperature, whereas the coefficients of the pure components increase with increasing temperatures. For the pure alcohols, a nearly linear relationship exists between the pressure coefficient of viscosity and the activation energy of viscous flow.
