Summary
Experimental studies with 16 rabbits and 10 dogs have shown the possibility to dilate tracheal stenosis up to a length of 8 cm in one stage procedures. Four weeks after previous surgical productions of a tracheal stenosis of 30–40% in dogs, dilatation of the trachea was performed using a lateral, longitudinal incision and inserting two oval shaped, composite conchal grafts, measuring 2.5×0.8 cm.
80% of the original tracheal lumen was regained. Modifications of this method and first results, referring to the current literature, are discussed.
