Summary
The technique of Glauert's image method for a single source is applied to determine the image system of a single vortex in shear flows of arbitrary velocity profile. The aerofoil section characteristics are obtained analytically by the extension of the image system for a single vortex and for a single source to those for vortex and source distributions. Numerical calculations are made and the results show the effect on the aerofoil section characteristics of vorticity in flow fields which have been obtained by combining linear shear flows, by comparison with those obtained in uniform flow.
