Abstract
Hematological abnormalities are well known in two syndromes which are typically accompanied by skeletal malformations, i.e. Fanconi's pancytopenia and radius-platelet hypoplasia. Since 1969 4 cases have been published of another rare syndrome, characterized by the coincidence of triphalangeal thumbs and hypoplastic anemia. Further malformations found are: hypoplasia of the radius, organic heart defects, and oral clefts. Until now the syndrome has only been observed in males. Therefore, x-linked inheritance seems probable. Reports on 3 of the 4 patients published thus far indicate improvement of anemia following treatment with prednisolone.
The hematological and skeletal abnormalities in an additional case of this rare syndrome are reported.
