Summary
The tumor-cell specific agglutinin derived from wheat germ lipase reacts like an “incomplete” lectin with human red blood cells after pronase treatment, independent of AB0 blood group. The agglutination is strongly inhibited by blood group A substance from peptone. This substance reacts also with the agglutinin in agargel immunodiffusion. The receptor for this agglutinin is not identical with the A antigen. The heterophile agglutinin could be characterised by a specific antiserum.
