Summary
The hamster was used as a model for systematic studies in primary multiple carcinogenesis induced by DBN. After subcutaneous and intragastric treatment, neoplasms were simultaneously found in the respiratory system and in the urinary bladder. A dose dependent effect was seen for survival, tumor incidence and latency. Papillomas and epidermoid carcinomas were found in the nasal cavities; papillary polyps were mainly found in the larynx, trachea and stem bronchi whereas mixed and combined carcinomas were observed in the lungs. The urinary bladder showed transitional cell papillomas and carcinomas.
