Photoregulation of dikaryon-specific mRNAs and proteins by UV-A light inSchizophyllum commune

Abstract

Changes in expression of eight mRNAs presumed to be fruiting-specific and of total proteins were measured in three dikaryons ofSchizophyllum commune with different sensitivities to light. A clear elevation of some mRNAs could be seen 6 h after the beginning of UV-A illumination. After 24 h the concentrations of six of the mRNAs were strongly increased in all three dikaryons. The concentration of an mRNA not related to fruiting was decreased within 24 h after transfer to UV-A light. Only 16 h after transfer to light, a few reproducible changes could be seen in the polypeptides made by two of the dikaryons. These results suggest that light may control fruiting at the transcriptional level.
