Low-Density Form of NaGaSi₂O₆

H. Ohashi, T. Osawa and A. Sato

The structure of NaGaSi₂O₆ is similar to that of jadeite (NaAlSi₂O₆). Comparison of the structure of NaGaSi₂O₆ with those of eleven other NaM³⁺Si₂O₆ pyroxenes suggests that the octahedrally coordinated Ga³⁺ ions exist in two different electronic states.
