Transfer of Mammalian Ova between Species

Abstract

THE intra-specific transfer of mammalian eggs has now been developed into a well-established technique1; but apart from two recent communications2,3, relatively little information is available concerning either inter-generic or inter-specific transfer. The absence of any reliable method for the culture of sheep eggs in vitro led us to investigate whether they could develop normally following transfer to the genital tract of the rabbit. The reproductive pattern of the rabbit makes it eminently suitable for a study of this nature.
