Abstract
CHEMI-IONISATION mechanisms in flames so far proposed have largely been based on the participation of oxygen1. However, recent results from several laboratories and the results presented here strongly suggest that initial ions in hot hydrocarbon flames, whether lean, stoichiometric, or rich, may have a pyrolysis origin.
