Abstract
ALTHOUGH radiation-less transitions in aromatic molecules have been investigated experimentally for more than 10 years, it is only recently that any real understanding has been achieved. The main reason for this is that interpretation of the experimental results has been limited by the difficulty of distinguishing between temperature and viscosity effects in systems where temperature and viscosity are dependent variables1. Concomitant theoretical developments have contributed towards the resolution of some of the experimental problems, approaching the subject from the point of view of both intramolecular and intermolecular perturbations.
