Scimmie scoiattolo trattate cronicamente con MnO2 presentano disturbi del sistema extrapiramidale ed una riduzione delle concentrazioni di serotonina e dopamina nel nucleo caudato. L'intensità dei disturbi extrapiramidali e la riduzione della concentrazione delle amine nel caudato appaiono correlate.
