Abstract
The effect of preliminary mechanical activation of a batch in a centrifugal planetary mill on the thermal effect and burning velocity of compacis during SHS-compaction of multicomponent cermet SHTM-5 was investigated. The physical, mechanical, and service properties of the specimens obtained were investigated. It is shown that preliminary mechanical activation leads to an increase of the thermal effect of the formation of titanium carbide and makes it possible to increase the burning velocity of compacts, to increase the structural and chemical homogeneity of the synthesis products, to achieve a high uniformity of the distribution of the precipitation-hardening and alloying additives, and, as a consequence, to improve the service properties of the carbide.
