Rate constants and mechanism of the reaction of phosphites with ozone in carbon tetrachloride

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    An analysis of the kinetics of the reaction of ozone with phosphites shows that the steps of formation of a relatively stable product (RO)3PO3 is preceded by the formation of an intermediate unstable complex.

  2. 2.

    A method was developed for determining the rate constants of the primary step of the reactions of phosphites with ozone, and the rate constants were determined for 14 phosphites.

  3. 3.

    An empirical equation relating the induction constant of the substituents to the reactivity of phosphites with respect to ozone was found.
