Effects of the side chain at C17 on the13C chemical shifts of tetracyclic triterpenoids from the dammarane series

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    The effects of the side chains at C17 on the13C chemical shifts of tetracyclic triterpenoids of the dammarane series are dependent on the presence and nature of an intramolecular hydrogen bond (IMHB) between the OH group at C12 and an OH or epoxy group at C20.

  2. 2.

    The α17, β13, and β16 effects of the side chains are most sensitive to the effect of the IMHB in the13C spectra of dammarane triterpenoids.

  3. 3.

    The α17 and β13 effects of open and closed side chains in the spectra of triterpenoids containing IMHB are essentially dependent on the presence of a 17-OH group.
