Summary
Tris(2-chloroethoxy)iron(III) has been prepared and exists as a 1∶1 electrolyte in nitrobenzene, methanol and dimethyl-sulphoxide. Cryoscopic data suggest that it ionises into two species in nitrobenzene. The complex, with a variety of ligands containing C=O, S=O, P=O and As=O groups, forms adducts which have been characterized by their i.r. spectra, molar conductances, molecular weights and magnetic moments. Magnetic susceptibility measurements are in accord with the existence of antiferromagnetic interactions between iron atoms.
