Abstract

The Gontermann-Peipers Company has been a leading producer of different types of rolling-mill rolls for more than 100 years. The firm was studying the feasibility of using high-chromium steel to make rolls as early as the beginning of the 1960s. This material subsequently became the main material for making the work rolls and, later, the backup rolls of hot- and cold-rolled sheet and plate mills.
