Nuclear fragmentation with 100 MeV α-particles

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik A Atoms and Nuclei

Abstract

Reaction products from the collision of 100 MeVα-particles with Ca and Ni nuclei have been investigated at the Jülich cyclotron. Energy spectra and angular distributions of fragment isotopes with 1≦A≦12 have been measured. The data differ from standard compound or precompound nuclear model expectations and are rather similar to high energy heavy ion data. A simple analysis using the coalescence model and the geometrical concept of the fireball model describes the essential features of the data surprisingly well.
