Screened Coulomb trajectory effects on inner shell ionization

Abstract

Electron screening effects influence the classical trajectory of the projectile. The influence of this effect on inner shell ionization probabilities is studied. We compare calculations with straight lines trajectories to trajectories in a screened and in an unscreened Coulomb potential. Rather simple prescriptions are found which allow to take the screening effects into account using “modified Coulomb trajectories”. Their accuracy is investigated and demonstrated for a number of representative examples.
