Further evidence for nuclear rolling friction acting in heavy-ion induced reactions

Abstract

Recent experimental results on heavy-ion fusion cross sections for asymmetric systems and on angular momentum transfer in damped collisions are shown to be well described, if rolling friction is explicitly taken into account. Its neglect in various other trajectory calculations leads to a significant underestimate of the fusion cross section as well as of the transferred angular momentum.
