Summary
Report of benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis in three children. In two cases the patients were siblings. The onset of the disease was in infancy or early childhood. In the now 12 1/2 year-old girl three attacks of jaundice with intense itching and acholic stools lasted several weeks and recurred in intervals from 5 months up to 2 1/2 years. In the brother first attack occured with 9 months. The third patient is now 2 years of age and had hitherto two attacks with 9 months and 1 7/12 years also marked by itching and cholestatic jaundice lasting for several weeks. The clinical symptoms and the results of laboratory examinations including liver biopsy are reported. A review of the cases reported in literature is given. Aetiological and pathogenetic considerations are discussed.
