Summary
The activities of the serum transaminases were measured comparatively with and without the addition of pyridoxal-5′-phosphate in 40 healthy people and 61 patients. The measurements were made using the spectrophotometric test and with substrate saturation of the enzymes. Addition of 200 nM pyridoxal-5′-phosphate to the test medium effected an average increase in activity of 12% in GOT and of 10% in GPT. Occasionally, in liver and heart diseases increases in enzyme activity between 60 and 250% occurred which could possibly reflect a relative or absolute lack of vitamin B6 in these patients.
