Summary

In intact as well as in partially hepatectomized rats, spironolactone causes a significant weight increase of the liver, and a considerable rise in the mitotic activity of hepatocytes. It is assumed that this non-toxic substance activates through enzyme induction, certain mechanisms (e. g., increased protein synthesis, activation of NADPH-producing systems) which promote regeneration of the liver.
