Abstract

Seven women with recurrent breast carcinoma, which were treated by the combination of wide excision, immediately reconstruction with myocutaneous flap (TRAM or latissimus dorsi) and adjuvant brachytherapy, are reported. The mean interval between the mastectomy and the recurrence was 36 months (range 24–48) and mean age was 46.5 years (range 35–52 years). The patients received a brachytherapy dose of 4600 rad 7 days post-operation. The follow-up ranges from 26–37 months, and there has been no local recurrence or distant metastasis. The results, and advantages of the brachytherapy treatment are reported and a typical case is described.
