ABO Rh blood groups and platelet transfusion

Summary

In platelet transfusions Rh-incompatibility between donor and recipient has no unfavourable effect on the destruction of platelets in the recipient.

In ABO-incompatibility however, the yield is decisively reduced. Therefore, conserves of platelets for the purpose of transfusion will have to be produced further from ABO-compatible blood, if the specific platelet antigens are taken into consideration.

Zusammenfassung

Bei der Thrombozyten-Transfusion hat die Rh-Inkomparibilität zwischen spender und Empfänger keine ungünstige Wirkung auf den Abbau von Thrombozyten beim Empfänger.

Bei der ABO-Inkompatibilität wird die Ausbeute jedoch beträchtlich reduziert. Wenn die spezifischen Thrombozyten Antigene in Betracht gezogen werden, müssen deshalb Thrombozyten-Konserven für den Zweck der Transfusion weiterhin aus ABO-kompatiblem Blut hergestellt werden.
